GARDEN REVIEW 2nd JANUARY 2016 Beetroot Rhubarb and Fartichokes

Harvested today. Beetroot and Artichokes. My Daughter has been growing Artichokes for years for the flowers. No flowers yet so we might try eating them. I have never eaten an Artichoke as I have heard that they make you fart a lot ! The Beetroot are now boiled and taste delicious. Our Rhubarb is popping up in the pot. That's about all that is going on in our Kitchen Garden today

  1. Dear Marion - it looks like in spite of winter you still are enjoying the garden. I too have some beets waiting for harvesting. Very unusual for us but winter has just started to arrive. Hope you are having a lovely start to the New Year. Wishing you many blessings in 2016!

  2. J Artichokes are a devil to peel, so you can imagine how pleased I was when I found some big plump round ones in a Brighton Asian store (Taj). I planted a few back here in France, and when harvested they turned out to be exactly the same knobbly little devils as I'd always grown before. Such is life. Your Beetroot looks a bit small, shouldn't you have left them a bit longer?

    1. We have left lots of Beetroot in the ground to hopefully get bigger. I think I will replant the Artichokes Cro and hope they flower this year. Marion x

    1. I love Rhubarb too Margaret. I have just learned that I should harvest the small stalks and leave the big stalks. I have a lot to learn. Marion x
