English Paper Piecing Patchwork wearing L Plates

I am itching to get stitching some Hexagons for an English Paper Piecing Patchwork Project

First attempt at making a Hexagon with a Protractor. Useless !
Second attempt using a Compass. Oh dear ....no good

Third attempt. Yippee I now know how to make a Hexagon thanks to Youtube. Plastic templates are quite expensive so I will be making my own.
Now I need to find the right fabric...

  1. Well done making your own templates afraid I gave in and bought plastic ones they are so much easier to cut the fabric with them, if I want some relaxing sewing to do it is hexies I turn to, have a big box waiting with the hexies to join together

    1. I can't decide which size is best for a beginner Margaret ? A set of plastic Hexagons was sixteen pounds in town.

  2. Have you tried searching for printable shape templates on the Internet? There are lots of sites that offer free printable ones, if not patchwork sites, then Maths ones. I printed out various shapes/sizes and placed them under some see-through plastic ( an old flexible chopping board ), traced them off and cut them out. If there are sharp edges you can sand them down. "Hey Presto!" Inexpensive templates and you've recycled an old chopping board :) You can also use the printable sheets for the paper 'inserts', makes life much easier than drawing them all out. xx

    1. Thank you Ikigai. I will try to find some to print. My project uses 26 shapes of different shapes which is taking me a long time to make !
